Weather in Egypt: What to Expect Year-Round

Weather in Egypt: What to Expect Year-Round
Egypt’s climate is warm and sunny most of the year, offering the perfect backdrop for adventure. Whether you’re exploring ancient wonders at the Pyramids, sailing along the Nile, or unwinding on Egypt’s stunning coastlines, each season brings its own unique charm. Here’s what to expect year-round.
1. Winter (December – February): The Best Time to Visit
Winter is cooler and comfortable, making it the best time for sightseeing. Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan see mild days and chilly nights.
- Cairo & Giza: 10–20°C (50–68°F)
- Luxor & Aswan: 10–25°C (50–77°F)
- Hurghada & Sharm El Sheikh: 15–25°C (59–77°F)
💡 Tip: Bring a light jacket for the evenings, especially in the desert.
2. Spring (March – May): Warm with Occasional Sandstorms
Spring brings warmer weather and occasional khamsin winds (sandstorms), mostly in March & April. By May, it starts feeling like summer.
- Cairo & Giza: 15–30°C (59–86°F)
- Luxor & Aswan: 20–35°C (68–95°F)
- Red Sea Resorts: 20–30°C (68–86°F)
💡 Tip: Sunglasses and a scarf help block dust if you visit during a sandstorm.
3. Summer (June – August): Extremely Hot
Egyptian summers are scorching, especially in Upper Egypt (Luxor & Aswan), where temperatures can hit 45°C (113°F). Red Sea resorts have a more tolerable heat thanks to coastal breezes.
- Cairo & Giza: 25–38°C (77–100°F)
- Luxor & Aswan: 30–45°C (86–113°F)
- Hurghada & Sharm El Sheikh: 28–38°C (82–100°F)
💡 Tip: Plan early morning or late afternoon activities to avoid the midday heat.
4. Fall (September – November): Cooling Down Again
September still feels like summer, but by October and November, temperatures are much more comfortable.
- Cairo & Giza: 20–30°C (68–86°F)
- Luxor & Aswan: 22–35°C (72–95°F)
- Red Sea Resorts: 22–32°C (72–90°F)
💡 Tip: November is a great month to visit—less crowded and cooler temperatures.
Best Time to Visit Egypt
✅ December–March (Winter) → Best for sightseeing
✅ April–May, October–November (Spring & Fall) → Good weather, fewer crowds
✅ June–August (Summer) → Very hot, but great for coastal destinations like the Red Sea, Alexandria, and the Mediterranean coast.
Egypt is a year-round destination, but planning around the weather helps you enjoy the trip more comfortably.
